"Last Saturday was an interesting day for both me (Jay) and my buddy (John) as we embarked on an all day fishing expedition with none other than fishing guide Clint Wright on Lake Fork . A lot of fisherman including myself would typically stay home with this wind we have had lately. One thing I learned is that the fish can still be caught.

I should tell you how the day or I should say morning started off. We were driving in from Dallas via Sulpher Springs about 5:00a.m. when we were abruptly halted in our tracks by a sea of brake lights. An 18 wheeler apparently exploded on I-30 and had the road shut down going both ways. Great, we were supposed to meet our guide at 5:30, eat breakfast and get on the lake. Not going to happen. It took us a while to find a way out of the traffic and backtrack to get to the lake a different way.

We arrived at Oak Ridge and got a quick bite to eat. By the way, Oakridge Marina's Restaurant is OUTSTANDING!! If you haven't been there, it is located on the south east side of the lake off 154. Great food, great service and most important of all, great ramp.

So, back to the meat of the story. We were on the water about 7:00 a.m. Clint had us on fish at every spot we hit. Prior to this trip I did not have a lot of experience fishing deep water much less in 35 mile an hour wind! I fished all day at the bow with Clint while John fished the back of the boat. Clint was a great lifeguard as he saved my butt more than a few times from going swimming with the fishes due to the high seas we were in. Whether you are an experienced angler or new to the sport of Largemouth Bass fishing, Clint Wright is not only a great guide, he is an educator. He explained what type of area we were fishing, why we were fishing the baits we were using and also went so far as to show us how he was interpreting the electronics! Not something a lot of guides will do.

One other thing you may not know about Clint is that he was a Navy Corpsman for the good ol' USA . Well let me tell you, his experience in that role paid off on Saturday as he pulled a stunt that he had just coached myself and John on just a few minutes earlier. Clint had the notion that we should switch to rattle traps...brave man he is...three guys in the boat with rattle traps flying. He made the comment, "No hooks in the guide." Well that was the moment he jinxed himself. He snagged some grass on one of his retrieves and when he jerked the lure it flew out of the water and promptly embedded itself into his shin. I don't mean a little prick either. The front trebles as well as the rear treble were dug in like they had a bass by the lip. This is where it gets good. He pulled the front one out with ease then promptly clipped the front hook off so it wouldn't re-snag itself when he tried to remove the other hook. Folks, it was in so deep it made me queasy. He proceeded to tie a piece of string he had found in the boat around the hook where it entered the skin. He took a deep breath and we all counted to three and he jerked out the hook without any further incident!! Way to go Clint! Now that’s a dedicated guide. He wasn't about to let a little thing like a hook in his leg ruin our day. ha ha

We proceeded to have a great day of fishing. The numbers we posted for the day were great. I would have to say the most exciting part of the day for me was about 45 minutes before sunset as he tied some Reaction Innovation Trixy Sharks on our lines and we tossed them into some lily pads. It was a serious feeding frenzy. Within about 20 minutes we all three had 6 or 7 fish. They were slamming them. We went in for some dinner and then came back out to fish the night bite for a while. Talk about an adrenaline rush, doing 50 miles an hour in the pitch black of night. Not a doubt in my mind that Clint knew what he was doing. Well, by this time we had about 13 or 14 hours of fishing in for the day and I was literally starting to doze off while I was retrieving my lure. I was afraid a fish may decide to take advantage of me and jerk the rod out of my hands so we decided to call it a day.

Seriously, if anyone is looking for a guide that is professional, uses great equipment, knows the lake like the back of his hand and can actually teach you how to fish this lake then Clint Wright is your man. I can't wait to fish with him again. We learned so much in just one long day of fishing. The trip was priceless".

"If I had to describe Clint Wright in one word, I would call him dedicated. Clint relentlessly pursues fishing on Lake Fork with unparalleled passion. To say that Clint is obsessed with largemouth bass would be a huge understatement. I know for a fact that when Clint’s not guiding clients, he’s out fishing in his spare time. Clint hits the water hard, not just because he loves fishing, but also because he wants his clients to have the best fishing trip possible. Conditions and patterns change quickly on Lake Fork. Daily or sometimes hourly changes are not unusual. Clint strives to keep himself up-to-date on all the hotspots and latest strategies, but he’s no stranger to the “tried and true” methods that produce giant Lake Fork bass. One thing that makes Clint such a good guide is his flexibility to adapt as the fishing changes. He’s always striving to be one step ahead of the fish – and most of the time he is!

Clint Wright grew up fishing Lake Fork and his experience on the lake clearly shows. Whether it’s spawning fish, deepwater patterns, or moonlight lunkers, Clint always seems to have an intuitive sense of where the fish are, and what they’re feeding on. I have always been impressed with Clint’s desire to increase his knowledge of all things related to fishing. I’ve had many mealtime conversations with Clint on topics ranging from fish behavior, to aquatic vegetation, to water chemistry. Between bites of some Oakridge Restaurant burgers, we answer each other’s questions. I must admit that I’ve learned more about bass fishing on Lake Fork from Clint than from anyone else.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about fishing with Clint Wright is his patience and demeanor. Even if the fishing is slow, I know I can always count on a good conversation and lots of laughs while in Clint’s boat.

The best bass I’ve ever caught came while night-fishing with Clint in June 2007. To this day, I’m convinced that he was just as excited when we landed that fish as I was.

Clint Wright treats his customers with dignity and respect, qualities that many guides these days seem to be lacking. I know that if you book a trip with Clint, he’ll work diligently to provide you with the best fishing experience possible, and you’ll enjoy a great day on the lake. Hopefully, you too will catch a “personal best” like I did while fishing with Clint Wright."

"What a great experience!! To say Clint worked hard for us is an understatement. We arrived at Oak Ridge Resort at 6PM, called Clint as he had asked me to do to confirm that it was a 5AM start. To my suprise he says "lets start at 2AM and get a big one". My partner and I we're so excited we couldn't sleep. Clint wakes us up and away we went. By 2:45AM I had caught the biggest bass of my life. A 9lbs chunk off one of Clint's brush piles. And that was just the beginning. We caught fish off top water, drop shot and texas rig.

We caught close to 40 fish but none were more special then the (2)8lb bass my partner caught back to back. He had never caught a bass over 3lbs before, and to see the excitement on his face was priceless. Clint worked hard to put him on those fish. He knew what that would mean to him and he did it, not once but 2 in a row!!

I'd have to say Clint was the hardest working most persistant fishing guide I have ever been with. At one point after 6hrs of fishing, we were run off the lake because of weather and I'm sure some guides would have called it a day. Not Clint, he said "go get some rest and lets hit it again when it clears". That was above and beyond what we expected.

As I told Clint, I barely slept in 24 hrs. When the trip was over you would think I would fall asleep before my head hit the pillow. I found myself not able to sleep, but thinking of how I could use what I learned at my home lake. The different techniques I'd seen on TV or read about, he showed first hand and was extremley patient. Clint was constently keeping our baits fresh, making sure we were in the right spot, even restrung my partners reel with his line.

I could go on and on but the bottom line is Clint fished with us as we were his friends that he was taking fishing, not 5AM to 3PM clients. He put myself and my parner on the biggest fish we've caught and taught us more then I could have ever expected. I'd say we got our moneys worth.

As long as he's guiding on Fork I'll be his client!

Thanks Clint....You are the man!!"
